2357 Space Mural

The 2357 Space Mural situated in Little Timor street along the the side of the Coonabarabran Bakery wall kicked off as a pitch for an Orana Arts Soup Session night by Community Development Coordinator Vivian Evans and excitingly it was successful gaining the most votes on the night and raising almost $600. We had to reach over $3000 to make it happen.

The design was aimed to include some eye catching planets, the milky way, the Warrumbungle Dark Sky and McNaughts comet. As project manager Vivian connected artist Steve Crompton, astro photographer Jaap Int' Veld and comet discover Rob McNaught. to fine tune the design. As time went on the initial mock up changed somewhat.... 'out of this world ' planets turned into Earth, Mars and Jupiter.

So the race was on then to raise enough funds for the artist Steve Crompton and the required resources. The aim was to paint the mural on the Festival of the Stars October long weekend but sadly it had to be called off as there were 2 cracks in the wall that we were concerned about. The cracks were checked by a number of people and with some minor repair work we were ready to go again. A second date was determined and we had to post pone another time due to receiving much needed rain. (We were in Level 6 water restrictions due to a very long drought)
